Anthony - Finance

Hi, I'm Anthony, I joined the business in 2007 in Internal Audit and moved to my new role in the Commercial Finance team just one year later.

Anthony

In work; I am motivated by variety, challenge, interesting and engaging people and a subject matter that interests me. Consequently, as an Accountant, a Commercial role working for a company that brews and sells beer is about as good as it gets - the industry and role are fast moving and varied, and I am actively encouraged to challenge the expected (even in areas that have nothing to do with Finance). Brilliant!

My work throws up a wide variety of challenges; in my year in Internal Audit I investigated a product recall and a suspected supplier fraud, reviewed the workings of our New Product Development process and completed a financial audit of the Company's Japanese subsidiary (which involved a trip to Tokyo and having to get my head around the language, business culture and food as well the challenges of commuting in Tokyo's rush hour - I don't complain about traffic in Burton too much these days).

In my current role I get involved in forecasting sales to the supermarkets (not an easy task), projects to develop and launch new packs and products, increasing the financial awareness of the Sales teams (about as easy as forecasting the supermarkets' demand patterns), and challenging sales (and so production) expectations. My role links in with teams in Supply Chain, Demand Management, Marketing and others, and I then have to take the results of my area and explain them to the wider business - it's not the sort of backward looking "bean-counter" role that people envisage when they think of an Accountant's lot.

Outside work; I love to travel (I have a particular interest in Latin America), play and watch football, enjoy the restaurants, cinemas and bars of the City and escape into the countryside to walk in the hills.
